6th Annual Holiday Lights Parade
December 11 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
BUCKSPORT, ME, November 3, 2021 – The Town of Bucksport is inviting members of the public to its 6th annual Holiday Lights Parade on Saturday, December 11th starting at 6:00 pm to enjoy some creatively designed floats which will be traveling along Franklin Street to Mill Street and back along Main Street. This is a newer, longer route for the Holiday Parade but is the same route as the Bay Festival Parade.
The Holiday Lights Parade was formed in 2016 and was brought forward by then mayor, David Keene, to foster a sense of community during the holiday season. Chris Grindle, the director of the parade, ran with Keene’s dream and made it a reality. “That first year there had to be close to 1,000 people watching the parade from the streets, from their vehicles, from their homes and from local businesses,” said Richard Rotella the town’s Community & Economic Development Director. “Chris has put a lot of time and effort into ensuring that the Holiday Lights Parade is one of the best around. Chris is the one who helped take this parade from an idea to the event it is today” said Rotella.
In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic the event was held stationary with vehicles traveling Main Street to see the parked floats. Rotella said “there were vehicles that traveled the parade route multiple times. The event really helped to shine a light during the pandemic. Folks were unable to attend many, if not all, in-person events so to have an event where the citizens could get out of their house and into their vehicles to enjoy the stationary parade on Main Street really lifted a lot of people’s spirits.”
The 2021 Holiday Lights Parade will be returning to its traditional form and the town is now accepting float registrations for this year’s event by contacting the town office at (207) 469-7368. There will be prizes for the Top 3 floats that will be judged as they pass by the Bucksport Town Office.
